The National Merit Scholarship Program
Each year, the National Merit Scholarship Program honors students across the United States for their exceptional performance on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). In the fall of 2023, approximately 1.5 million students participated in the PSAT, with only the top 50,000 scorers acknowledged for their academic excellence. Among this elite group, Commended Scholars are recognized for placing in the top 3-4% of test-takers nationwide.
