STUDENT LIFE

At Hampton Roads Academy, sportsmanship, teamwork, and dedication are at the heart of our athletics program. From Middle School to Junior Varsity and Varsity levels, we offer a diverse range of sports that cater to every athlete’s passion and skill level. Students in Grades 5 – 12 are permitted to join a sports team, and over half of our student population participates in one or more sports. Though the core goals of our athletics program are to help students identify the best in themselves, promote growth, and develop leadership capabilities, we take pride in our teams’ successes on the field, on the court, and in the pool. Our teams frequently compete in conference, state, and national championships, and several of our student-athletes go on to play in college each year.

The Fine Arts program at Hampton Roads Academy fosters a creative environment where students explore their creativity through our visual and performing arts offerings. Students develop their talents in the visual arts across various media and settings, from traditional studio art to photography and ceramics. In the performing arts program, students have the opportunity to get on stage through chorus, theatre, strings, or band or explore stage production through technical theatre. No matter what they choose, our Fine Arts curriculum aims to help students meaningfully connect to their community and society while igniting a sense of creativity and discipline.

Many HRA parents have busy schedules, and some clubs and sports teams meet after school. For those reasons, HRA is happy to offer extended hours and after-school programming. These programs include Extended Care, After School Classes, and Middle School Study Hall, so you can rest assured your child is in safe and capable hands after the school day ends. Plus, they’ll enjoy a fun end to their day!

At Hampton Roads Academy, the fun continues even when school lets out! During the summer, HRA offers a variety of camps and programming, allowing students to learn about their favorite topics or engage in exciting activities. Our summer camps are available to enrolled HRA students and non-Navigators in our community aged 3 – 5 and in Grades 1 – 6. Learn more about how your student can explore, grow, and make new friends while participating in summer enrichment.

The Mary and Larry Pope Dining Hall, headed by Executive Chef Uwe Schluszas, is more than just a place to eat. Designed with round, communal tables to cultivate a sense of community, our dining hall is unique in that students, faculty, and staff all eat in the same facility. Our dining plan, included with student tuition, offers a thoughtfully planned daily menu of innovative, freshly prepared meals and healthy snacks. Plus, our meals feature fresh produce grown by students in our innovative hydroponics lab, making for a delicious and nutritious dining experience.
