Extended Care Enrichment
Extending Your Student’s Day
After the school day concludes in the early afternoon, the Hampton Roads Academy parents continue their busy schedules. Certain clubs and activities may also require extra hours in the day. To accommodate these needs, Hampton Roads Academy proudly provides Extended Care Enrichment for Lower and Middle School students. Exclusively available to HRA students, our after-school offerings include Extended Care, After School Classes, Special Day Programs, and Middle School Study Hall.
Morning Care Hours
7:00 – 7:30 AM
At Hampton Roads Academy, morning care provides a welcoming and structured environment where students can start their day smoothly. Ms. Tanguy escorts the children to their classrooms at 7:30 a.m., fostering a sense of continuity and care. Morning care is designed to offer peace of mind for parents, knowing their children are in a safe and nurturing space before the school day begins.
Extended Care Enrichment
Extended Care Enrichment is available at HRA Monday through Thursday from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. and Fridays from 2:10 to 5:30 p.m. At Extended Care, students enjoy a snack before beginning their homework. During homework time, mentors work with HRA students in Grades One through Four, helping them with assignments and offering guidance. Some students are even able to complete all their homework during this time, allowing them time for family and other activities at home.
We know that play is an important part of the day for these students, especially after school. After homework time, Lower School students have the opportunity to play outside. On days with bad weather, learning activities are instead set up in the Multi-Purpose Room. Sometimes, students enjoy a movie, while others opt to spend time reading.
After School Classes
Certain Lower School courses meet later in the day in order to provide engaging and meaningful enrichment after regular school hours. HRA students can choose from a variety of enriching After School Classes, including ballet, running club, chess, karate, mindful movement, piano, art and music classes. Sign-up forms for these classes are distributed prior to the start of each school year, throughout the year as new classes are introduced, and at the beginning of each semester.
Middle School Study Hall
Middle School students participate in Study Hall as part of Extended Care Enrichment. Before beginning their work, students sign in and outline the assignments they plan to tackle during this time. Teachers are available to provide guidance and support. We find this dedicated study time to be particularly beneficial for Middle School Athletes, who may need to dedicate their time to schoolwork before and after practices and games.
