Submit An Application To HRA

Hampton Roads Academy accepts applications via rolling admissions, meaning we can take applications at any time. An admissions assessment, or the academic test that accompanies the application, will be administered in November for Grades 3 and up, and in January for Grades Pre-K-2.

Please note that all of the following steps must be completed in order to complete your prospective student’s file. The steps to apply to Hampton Roads Academy include:

1. Complete Our Online Application

Parents or legal guardians must complete and submit the online application that can be found on our online portal. The application is not complicated, but it involves several steps: receiving the checklist, entering information about the student, parents and grandparents, providing current school and coursework details (if applicable), submitting parent or student statements based on grade level and uploading the student’s birth certificate and current academic report. A non-refundable application fee of $75.00 is required upon submission.

2.  Submit School Records Release Form And Current Educator Information

Please print, sign and date the Student Record Release Form, then email it the HRA Office of Admissions once completed. Additionally, we ask that you please provide our office with the email address(es) of the student’s current or most recent classroom teacher(s). We will reach out to them and ask them to complete an evaluation form on behalf of your prospective student.

3. Complete The Academic Assessment

All applicants are required to take the HRA admissions assessment for his or her grade-level in reading comprehension and math. Writing samples are required for students applying to Grades 1-12, while readiness assessments are required for grades Pre-Kindergarten, Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten.

4. Attend The Student Interview

The final step in the admissions process is for the student to meet with our division administrators and teachers. While parents will have an opportunity to meet with this team, as well, the student interview is required first.

Final Steps

Before the start of the school year, we will request official transcripts from the student’s previous school. During the summer, we will also reach out to coordinate your student’s course schedule. Hampton Roads Academy requires document proof that every student has received the following vaccines as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia: diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, poliomyelitis, measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, and chickenpox vaccines. Please submit these records via our online health records system. These records must be received by our school nurse and/or athletics program before each school year.
