The Navigator Annual Fund
Each academic year, Hampton Roads Academy invites all members of our community to align their philanthropic passions with the school’s pressing needs. As an independent school, HRA receives no government funding, and tuition alone covers only about 90% of our annual operating budget. Charitable contributions crucially bridge the gap between tuition and the cost of the unmatched educational experience HRA offers every student.

Navigator Arts Fund
At Hampton Roads Academy, we honor our student artists in every medium—be it on canvas, on stage, or in concert. We view the arts not as a luxury, but as an essential component of a well-rounded education. We believe that robust arts experiences significantly boost a child’s self-esteem and overall academic performance. Therefore, an HRA education is incomplete without the arts. Our curriculum includes a comprehensive, sequentially organized arts program, delivered by specialists from Pre-K through Grade 12.

Navigator Athletics Fund
At Hampton Roads Academy, our strong academic tradition is perfectly complemented by an exceptional athletic program, which plays a crucial role in personal development and enriching campus life. From Grades 5 through 12, HRA offers competitive opportunities on 36 teams, with approximately 70% of our students participating in at least one sport. We believe that every student, regardless of natural athletic ability, can learn, grow, and succeed within our teams. Our coaches, who are also educators, form meaningful relationships with students to enhance their overall educational experience.

HRA Day

Get ready for HRA Day, the Academy’s annual day of giving! This year, we honor the foundations we all share as members of the Navigator community. Before the school opened its doors in 1959, a visionary group of families gathered in the basement of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church and laid the groundwork for a legacy that has spanned nearly seven decades. They did not just dream. They guaranteed the loans. They found the property. They hired the first Head of School and a faculty of seven pioneering teachers. They stood behind the school with their own names.
They did not inherit HRA. They built it. Now, it is our turn to build. On April 17, we call on every member of the Navigator community to take part in supporting an educational experience rooted in excellence and empowering the future of Hampton Roads Academy. Every gift—at every level—strengthens the foundation our students stand on every day.
HRA Art Show
April 17-19, 2026
Join us in sparking creativity, supporting local artists, and building a new tradition in our school community! The inaugural HRA Art Show will be held on campus this April. This exciting event will feature both in-person and online sales of original works by artists from throughout the region, helping to raise funds for arts programs at HRA.
This pre-juried show, kicking off with an opening reception in the Spencer Gymnasium at 5:00 pm on April 17, will feature works in a variety of media, from paintings and photographic prints to sculptures and stunning multimedia pieces. HRA student artists will showcase their work alongside established professionals, highlighting the incredible impact of our Visual Arts Department.
