Five Seniors Inducted Into the Hampton Roads Academy Cum Laude Society

Founded in 1906, The Cum Laude Society honors superior academic achievement at esteemed, primarily independent, secondary schools in the United States, Canada, England, France, Spain, Puerto Rico and the Philippines.  The Cum Laude Society recognizes academic achievement for the purpose of promoting excellence (Areté), justice (Diké) and honor (Timé).

Founded more than 50 years ago, Hampton Roads Academy is one of only 16 schools in Virginia to have been awarded a Cum Laude charter. Fall inductees represent the top 10 percent of their graduating class.
The induction ceremony held on September 12th in the Svein J. Lassen Auditorium, included a presentation of the new inductees by the faculty members of Cum Laude, as well as thoughtful remarks by Kylie DeBoer, a Cum Laude member from the Class of 2015.  DeBoer used her unique experiences to illustrate the advantages of an HRA education when heading out into the world.  DeBoer holds a Masters in Epidemiology from Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health.  She is currently an Associate with the Bioko Island Malaria Elimination Project and is a longtime volunteer with Operation Smile.

The ceremony was followed by a lunch reception for inductees and invited guests in the Ferguson Media Center.
