Boys & Girls Swimming Capture State Titles

Hampton Roads Academy's boys and girls swim teams were crowned VISAA Division II state champs at the State Swim Meet at Richmond Collegiate Aquatic Center.
This is the fourth consecutive year that both teams brought home the championships. HRA’s girls swim team was recognized with the Sportsmanship Award and Coach Jeff Scott was named the girls Coach of the Year.

The Navigators were led by their senior captains, Nicole Piercy, Peyton Baldwin and junior Jared Norton. Piercy won the 500 Freestyle, setting a team record and placed third in the 200 Individual Medley. Baldwin had a pair of second place finishes and also set team records in the 200 Freestyle with an All-American consideration time and 100 Butterfly with an All-American automatic time. The duo teamed up with Victoria Schoenig and Bronwyn Keating on the 400 Freestyle Relay. This relay team finished first with an All-American consideration time, broke the team record by more than three seconds and Piercy broke the 100 Freestyle team record on the lead off leg. Jared Norton won the 100 Butterfly and swam to a third place finish in the 100 Breaststroke with an All-American automatic time.

Other all-state swims for the Navigators include, second place 200 Medley Relay: Piercy, Schoenig, Baldwin and Melina Gharbo. Bronwyn Keating placed third in the 100 Freestyle. Finally, third place 200 Freestyle Relay included Nicole Shuford, Claire Lennarz, Gharbo and Keating.
