| The organization’s purpose
is to promote the visual and performing arts at HRA through
funding and volunteer support. Activities include working
with the band, chorus, middle and upper school theater production,
and the decorations for seasonal performances. Volunteers
also assist in displaying art exhibits and providing refreshments
for Friends of the Arts events.
All families are encouraged to join the Friends of the Arts
with a $75.00 membership. Forms are available by download or from the Development Office (call 884-9177 or email JHafle@hra.org).
Membership entitles families to four tickets to any HRA theater
production. Membership dues are all returned to HRA in support
of the arts such as the purchase of a new
sound system. Funds are raised also through the summer
reading book sale.
Annually Jefferson award cups are given by Friends of the
Arts to the students deemed by the fine arts faculty to have
best demonstrated a love for the arts. Congratulations to
the recipients of the 2006 FOA Awards: Meredith Hill, Visual
Arts; Katie Oates, Vocal; Jordan Le Noach, Strings; Abbey
Hoekzema, Technical Theatre; and Jessica Phillips, Drama.
The awards were presented at the annual Arts Assembly.

Auditions for the Southeastern Virginia Senior Regional Orchestra took place in late September. Five HRA students auditioned with great success, and were placed into one of two orchestras. Katia Chaterji (cello) and Kay Byun (cello) were selected for the Symphony Orchestra. Emerson Ridley (violin), Young Kim (violin) and Jordan LeNoach (viola) were selected for the Concert Orchestra. The concert for both the Symphony and Concert Orchestras will be held on December 2nd at Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake.
Congratulations to these talented musicians!!
The primary fundraiser for Friends of the Arts is the summer
reading program. The English department assigns the books
to be read, volunteers mail out the lists and take orders.
The students books are delivered to them in their English
class. Thank you for supporting Friends of the Arts. Information
